‘Pickup’ the pace

Sometimes only a pickup will do the job. Despite increasing interest in vans and electric vehicles, farm trucks (pickups), remain the type of vehicle most frequently requested by Members. 

Recently, we’ve heard from many of you that you welcomed the recent U-turn from HMRC, meaning double cab pickups will continue to be classed as commercial vehicles for tax purposes, so it’s business as usual for pickup buyers.

HMRC reverses plans for double-cab pickups

Earlier this month, HMRC issued new guidance about the tax treatment of double-cab pickups. 

In welcome news for rural users of double cab pickups, this week they announced the new guidance will not be implemented.

What does this reversal mean?

Previously, all double-cab pickups ordered from 1st July 2024 were going to be classed as cars, not goods vehicles. This would have had tax and benefit-in-kind implications for these vehicles.

The outcry from farmers and the motoring industry on the impact of these changes, has resulted in HMRC doing a u-turn on its plans. Double cab pickups will continue to be treated as goods vehicles for tax purposes.
