Energy Team

The AF energy team is trusted to procure the power for over 8000 sites across the UK that provide the energy that is essential to doing business.

Peter Hamblin

Senior Energy Data Specialist

My main role here at AF is to ensure that thousands of energy invoices are validated accurately every month and delivered on time for Members.

My background and passion are in programming. I’ve worked in a range of roles, from retail all the way to glassblowing, but I always come back to working with data, code, and numbers. I have already had a hand in helping improve some of the processes here which benefit both our Members and how we work as a team, and I plan to find more ways to do that.

Supply Management Specialist

My previous experience in customer service has helped me address Members’ questions and listen to their energy queries. I work hard to inspire confidence in our Members that their AF Energy team are working on their behalf to keep costs competitive and resolve queries.

I have been with AF for nearly 3 years. Making the move to AF presented a new challenge which I have found very rewarding. There is always something new to learn here!

My previous role combined receptionist and purchase ledger clerk, working with both suppliers in the manufacturing of products and the general public on the small cash sales side.

I have always had a strong customer service focus in at work with previous jobs including frying in the local fish and chip shop to serving the general public as post office counter clerk. I started my career as a hotel receptionist at the Maids Head Hotel, the oldest hotel in Norwich.

One of the most exciting experiences for me was living in Germany for 9 years. It was a great opportunity to travel and immerse myself in the local community.

I am an avid reader and enjoy the fast pace of the racing circuit, helping at Snetterton during the racing season.

Renewable Project Specialist

My role within AF is to understand our Members’ renewables requirements, source quotes from appropriate suppliers and deliver project support where required.  The renewables market is constantly changing and is increasingly a ‘hot topic’ for our Members against the backdrop of rising energy consumption and costs.

I joined AF in 2019 to work with our Members to deliver renewable power generation developments. Having worked as an engineering project and design manager from 1995, I have spent the last ten years working with zero carbon energy technologies, on projects including nuclear and renewable sources (solar, wind and hydro) throughout the world, specialising in power security and energy efficiency.

Being part of the energy team gives me a perfect opportunity to ensure all of our Members receive the best customer service in relation to their energy supplies.

I joined AF in 2021, but have already made a big impact for some of the Members that I have worked with. I have over twelve years’ experience in customer service and a very positive attitude, which allows me to communicate well with Members, suppliers and colleagues alike. I am very passionate about my role and I always strive for perfection; I am only happy once I have received a satisfactory outcome for a Member.

With a passion for providing great customer service, the new-look AF Energy team has given me the perfect opportunity to utilise my problem-solving skills to resolve often complex matters for our Members.

Having worked for The AF Group for over 7 years, I’ve developed a wide and varied knowledge of the energy industry. Previous experience working in agribusiness banking and in procurement for the Armed Forces means I have an eye for detail and a no-nonsense attitude when liaising with our suppliers and third party agents to rectify our Members’ supply, metering and billing issues.

Supply Management Specialist

Joining the energy team has allowed me to further develop my analytical skills and provide excellent customer service to our Members, something that I have been recognised for by achieving the AF Serv Award after being with the business for less than six months!

Having only been with the energy team for a short while, the team have helped me develop and expand my knowledge of the energy industry, thus being able to work closer and more efficiently with our members. Having extensive customer service experience and worked in a variety of industries, has enabled me to jump straight in and get to know the business and understand our Members’ requirements. My background in administration and keen attention to detail has also aided when dealing with complicated technical and billing queries.

New Supply Specialist

Every day within the energy team can be incredibly varied; we deal with a wide range of Members, all with very different needs. I can fully support members from the first point of contact to the conclusion of their new supply enquiry.

I joined the energy team seven years ago in trading support and have since worked in different roles within the team. The knowledge and experience gained during my time in the team helps me support our Members with all their energy needs. My main responsibilities are to help find the best possible contract for electricity, mains gas, and mains water supplies. I am then responsible for managing the onboarding process for Members from the first point of contact to the registration of their supplies.

Working in the Renewables Team gives me the opportunity to maximise the benefits Members get from their renewable technologies.

I’ve been a part of AF since 2013, starting my career as Front of House Receptionist and progressing through the business in a variety of roles. Gaining a Business Management degree during my time at AF has allowed me to put the studied theory into practical day to day scenarios within AF to benefit Members’ though negotiating competitive PPA pricing and interrogating the charges within the Energy Industry to identify cost savings on supply contracts.
