Sophie Addinall
After leaving the University of York in 2010 with a Business Management degree, a career in HR was furthest from my mind. In fact, I remember saying on a number of occasions ‘I would never work in HR’.
Finding my niche
Fast forward a couple of years to 2012, when my HR journey started with an award-winning Employment Law Team in a Top 100 legal firm. Initially joining the law firm on work experience whilst studying to become a solicitor, I was offered a permanent role. I quickly realised that I found employment law fascinating and HR was actually a perfect fit.
HR is often described as a ‘necessary evil’ within organisations, but staff are integral to your business and employing, and most importantly retaining, top talent can be key to business success.
Making HR work for you
I joined AF in January 2022 and work both with our managers and our Members. Throughout the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment to dismissal or resignation, and everything in between, I’m on hand to advise. In addition, I also support and manage change processes such as redundancies, restructures, and TUPE matters. Getting to know our Members and their businesses is an opportunity (and sometimes a challenge) I relish.
I keep my employment legislation knowledge up to date, so I can assist with any staff issues, HR process reviews and audits, policy writing, or be an external party in recruitment (or other internal) processes for you. You can rest assured with the knowledge that my legal understanding will ensure you aren’t steered down a dangerous (and costly) path.

When I’m not at work, I love to travel and am always keen to explore new cities, countries and cultures. I recently visited Mexico for 2 weeks and after overindulging on tacos, I can only just face eating them again now. And let’s not talk about the Tequila…!
