AF to welcome new Chair

The handover to a new Chair of AF Group is imminent.

The Directors are sincerely grateful to current Chair Nigel Savory for his contribution to the AF Group. In the last six years, Nigel has guided the Board through the tenure of three CEO’s and more recently the disruption of Covid. He has strengthened the Society significantly through his focus on effective governance and financial stability, and he has brought in fresh skills and valuable experience through his extensive network beyond farming.

The Board welcomes the appointment of Iain Gardner who has a strong track record in the agricultural supply industry and is enthusiastic about his new role. “When people ask me what appealed to me about this role with AF, I explain that I believe that buying groups are more relevant than ever. During a tour around the AF headquarters, I watched the procurement teams at work serving requests from Members all over the UK and I could feel the energy and expertise on offer. I knew then that I wanted to contribute to AF’s future. I look forward to becoming Chair of the AF Group and having the opportunity to work with the Board and AF Members.”

“Driving forward the strategy of Smart Farm Procurement and improving Member engagement will be key to the future growth of the Group.

“I have worked with farmers for the majority of my career and I bring experience gained from more than 30 years in the Agricultural supply industry.  I have held Board positions both in the UK and in Europe with BOCM PAULS Ltd and as COO for ForFarmers Ltd. Currently, I am also a Director of Assured Food Standards (Red Tractor) and chair two pension trustee boards”

“I look forward to working with the Directors to guide the AF Group through the disruption facing farmers.  I am confident there’s an important role in the supply chain for a professional cooperative buying group.”
