A new job, a new city … it’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks.

I’ve recently joined AF as Data Scientist, part of the AF Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) team. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver an online benchmarking tool enabling Members to purchase more efficiently, identify opportunities for effective management and adopt an evidence-based approach to decision-making.

Having met with the colleagues from across AF to understand the current system, I’m starting the project by analysing the initial requirements and determining priorities for specifying requirements and data gathering.

Hungry for knowledge

Having gained a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Computer Science from Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar (India), I worked as an analyst in the IT sector for 2 years before heading to UK to continue my learning curve. I embarked on a Master’s degree in Advanced Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence.

I wanted to put the skills I’d learnt to work on a large science and data driven project, and as soon as I read the advert for the AF KTP, I knew it was a project I wanted to be part of.

A personal touch

From family and friends working in farming in India, I learnt about the difficulties farmers face. It struck me that they were having to make procurement decisions, some of the most important decisions for their businesses, without access to the forecasts or other evidence they needed to proceed with confidence. It became clear to me that this was a widespread challenge, so I’m really excited to address this through AF’s KTP and believe we can deliver a ground-breaking new tool to transform your procurement.

Away from the office

I’m passionate about exploring new horizons through travel and art, connecting with diverse cultures and people. There’s something truly engaging about sharing stories over a comforting cup of coffee or tea.
