Is forward fixing the right fit for your business?

If you’re thinking about forward fixing your fuel, it pays to understand what’s happening in the fuel markets and what’s on the horizon.

In the fuel markets

We’ve recently seen lower fuel prices as a result of reduced global demand. Medium term, little change is expected to crude oil supply so global demand will continue to be the main influence on price. If demand continues to drop, we could see prices fall further. If it increases, particularly in China and the US it’s likely prices will rise.

What does this mean for you as a fuel user?

In simple terms, there are no clear signs that prices will continue to fall or start to rise. In markets like this, forward fixing some of the fuel you need over coming months can help you to budget and control your cash flow, whatever fuel prices do.

Our AF advice for deliveries of 18,000 litres or more this autumn ‘24 or spring ’25

Depending on how far forward you fix, you could lock in at around today’s spot price (or even lower).

The diesel graph below, for Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD), shows how the futures price is in ‘backwardation’. This means the spot price, i.e. today’s price, is higher than it’s predicted to be. The futures price influences forward fix prices. So at the moment, the further ahead you lock in the better the price you can get.

Our AF advice for deliveries of 5,000 to 18,000 litres per month

It’s still beneficial to forward fix. Whilst the best forward fix prices are available on deliveries of 18,000 litres or more, you can forward fix 5,000+ litres per month.

Filling up for less with AF Fuel Cards just got even easier

You can now use your AF UKFuels card at all Morrisons and Texaco fuel stations across the UK. This means the UKFuels network now covers over 4,100 fuel stations, including 341 Morrisons and 387 Texaco sites.

What do you need to do?

If you already have an AF UKFuels card you don’t need to do anything. You can use it straight away in Morrisons or Texaco.

What if you don’t use Morrisons or Texaco?

No problem! The AF UKFuels card also covers other networks such as Applegreen, Essar, Gulf, Harvest, Jet, Murco, Pace and Welcome Break. Plus our other AF Fuel Cards give discounts at BP, Shell and Esso.
