Set your sights on seed you need for autumn ‘24
We’re already seeing some varieties of winter cereal seed sell out. Availability of certain varieties is subject to crop outturn, with early indications suggesting yield reduction is likely.
Use our availability guides to aid your decision making. Our availability tables below are colour coded to help you quickly understand your options:
Winter Wheat

This year there are a few new varieties on the AHDB Recommended List.
Hybrids:
- LG Armada – takes lead position for East & West with 107%. Similar growth habit to Ambassador
- LG Academic
- LG Adeline – takes lead position in North with impressive yield of 108%
- Dolphin – performs well in East & West. Strong tolerance to Verticillium and high oil content
Conventional:
- Pi Pinnacle – top yielding at 103% for East & West, sitting above Annika & Acacia. However, susceptible to stem canker with score of 4, no resistance to pod shatter or TuYV
Clearfield: - Miraculix CL – highest output of 96% for North. Relatively tall variety and scores 7.9 for lodging resistance. Also has good stem canker resistance but poor light leaf spot resistance.

Cover & companion crops
New SFI actions have launched this week:
- SOH2 – Multi-species spring sown cover
- SOH3 – Multi-species summer sown cover
- SOH4 – Winter cover following maize crops
They add to those already available:
- SW6 winter cover crops
- IPM3 companion crop on arable and horticultural land.
We can procure seeds suitable for all options. We’re anticipating increased demand for seed as the area of cover and companion cropping 2024/25 is expected to be larger than ever. Our advice is to order what you need sooner rather than later.
