Hire today, gone tomorrow

Once you’ve hired plant or machinery through your AF Machinery Team, there are two important things you need to do.

Insurance
You are responsible for insuring all plant you hire through AF. The hire company will contact you directly for confirmation of insurance, and no plant will be delivered until this has been provided.

Off-hire
When you’ve finished with plant or machinery you’ve hired through AF, it’s vital you tell your AF Machinery Team (not the hire company) so we can liaise with the hire company. This ensures you don’t incur charges for extra hire time.

Keep your machinery moving

Breakdowns can be expensive and hold up essential work. There are a few simple steps you can take to prevent breakdowns and keep plant and machinery moving. Here are six top tips from your AF Machinery Team and supplier Witham Group.

Use the right lubrication for the job: using high-quality lubricants extends machinery life, improves fuel economy and protects vital components, ensuring peak performance.

Engine care: regularly check and replace engine oil and filters, ensuring proper oil levels and a clean air filter.

Transmission & hydraulic systems: maintain optimal performance of vital working parts by checking transmission/hydraulic fluid levels and replacing filters if needed. Inspect pipes and fittings for wear.

Combine header: when inspecting for wear and tear, use a lubricant for anti-corrosion protection. During disassembly, liberally grease mechanisms and ensure you consider all the latest offerings from long lasting non-toxic, lanolin based greases to specific greases that will ensure continuous free movement of the header.

Belts, pulleys & bearings: harsh environments like harvest demand proper lubrication for pulley bearings and belt tensioners. Complex greases, lithium or calcium are a high-performance solution for high pressure and temperature compromised situations.

Chains: keep your drive chains operating smoothly with proper tension and lubrication. Chain oils offer a heavy-duty with ‘anti-fling’ additive, providing excellent lubrication and chain protection.
