What to put in your AF skip
(and what not to put in it!)

We’re often asked what you should, and shouldn’t, put into a skip you hire from AF.

See our handy guide below to tell you everything you need to know.

But beware – if you put things in your skip that shouldn’t be in there, you’ll likely get a hefty fine from the waste management company! These are just guidelines and can vary depending on supplier and region. To check exactly what you can put in your skip, and which items (if any) will incur charges, speak to your AF General Inputs team.

* As of 1st of September 2023 the Environment Agency have withdrawn the Regulatory Position Statement 250, meaning that certain potentially hazardous waste wood items from pre-2007 buildings can no longer be moved and processed as non- hazardous waste in England, unless they are sent off for testing to demonstrate they are not hazardous.

This means that the following ‘potentially hazardous’ items from pre-2007 may be classed and treated as such separately from normal waste:

  • Barge boards, external fascia’s and soffit boards
  • External joinery and external doors
  • Roof timber, tiling, cladding and tiling battens
  • Timber frames and joists

These items will need to be notified separately to ensure the waste collection processor can provide the correct method of disposal.

Waste management companies allow up to 25% of these waste types within mixed waste skips. If they make up more than 25%, the skip will be charged at the non-recyclable rate (haulage & tonnage).
