Hello, I am Louise Summerson, a farmer's daughter from North Yorkshire. Growing up on a small dairy, beef, and sheep farm near Whitby, my passion for agriculture has been instilled in me from a young age. I like the variety that farming brings on a day-to-day basis as we work with the seasons.
I’m currently studying Agriculture with Farm Business Management at Newcastle University. I love to take up whatever new opportunities come my way, which led me to undertaking a placement year with The Lakes Free Range Egg Company, as part of the McDonald’s Progressive Young Farmer Programme.
I am passionate about lifelong learning and taking up new opportunities to expand my knowledge. I would love to see more people in agriculture, and those considering entering the industry, get the opportunity to see the wider supply chain as well as learn from other areas of agriculture like I have done this year.
As a result of this, I am currently investigating the current uptake, awareness, barriers, and needs of Continued Professional Development (CPD) within agriculture from the perspective of the current agricultural workforce and those outside the industry.
