Laura Beck:
one month in

What a month. I feel so lucky to have joined such a fantastic team in AF Member Services and Communications.  In these first four weeks my feet haven’t touched the ground. After spending nearly the last 2 years on our family farm in the job of  Mummy and every other task you can imagine, I have enjoyed farm visits as well as being involved in some really great AF events.

The events have included the East of England Farming conference.  Thee speakers were such an inspiration to our industry.  Anyone that gets to know me soon realises sustainable aspects of farming really excite me especially from a livestock keeping perspective.

Satisfaction in surveying what you think of AF

Another thing this month has really given me is a good grounding for the AF business, especially through our 2022 Membership Satisfaction survey. Thank you to the 345 Members that responded. We have some great feedback, both positive and constructive.

Stepping into the comms part of my role is a little daunting. For starters and for December, I’m enjoying sharing highlights of our work for you on our social media platforms, so please tag and share us. We do need more Member pictures though if I could ask, what better way to share your successes than through your cooperative.

Making Member connections

Looking ahead, I think I can speak on behalf of all of us in the Member Services team, we’re really looking forward to connecting with as many Members as we can in 2023, whether that’s a visit to you in person, a telephone call or even a conversation over coffee at the events we attend. I’m a keen exhibitor of cattle and sheep at most agricultural shows so come and find me, I’ll keep you posted on which show, when and where.

All my career I’ve been involved in the supply chain whether that’s through assurance or capturing data to drive change, all the way through to producing pedigree stock for the commercial market. I love the task of data-capturing on farm. Using that information to sustainably drive change in your enterprise, whether that’s economically (which I’m sure our procurement teams can support with), ethically or environmentally.  We have already had a fantastic webinar on Cracking the Carbon Quandary but watch out for more.

I’m always at the end of the telephone if anyone ever wants to discuss ways in which we can support your business in any of these areas, and I’m sure if I can’t help, I can put you in touch with my AF colleague who can.
